The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida marked the start of Twitter live-streaming local news. Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter’s video GM, said in an email to Buzzfeed News: “By pairing live video with the conversation on Twitter, there is no faster way to see what’s happening in the world.”

Twitter’s embracing of itself as a news platform is in contrast with Facebook, who are planning on decreasing the amount of news items that show up in people’s News Feeds.
