European publishers push reader revenue

According to a report from Axel Springer based on an international survey, publishers are looking more and more to reader-revenue models, as Digiday reports. A majority of publishers indicated in the survey that they feel confident that readers have been showing a renewed interested in paying for news lately.

Stefan Betzold, managing director of Bild Digital said that multiple European publishers have recently launched new paid content models, moving away from ad revenue. With that said, the major platforms are making an effort to contribute to publishers’ subscription earnings. According to the survey, Google is the platform publishers say has been the most helpful in their effort to move towards subscription models.
