Bundled news: the current state of mind

In light of the launch of Scroll, a start-up that will offer unlimited access to ad-free versions of major news sites, Digiday UK represented the current state of bundled news subscriptions in five charts.

As it turns out, people in a vast majority of countries are not willing to pay for their news. In fact, even in Norway, the Western world’s most news-subscribing country, only 15% of readers subscribe. However, since President Trump’s election, there has been a resurgence in digital payments, though many of these were one-off payments or donations.

These bundled news apps are having trouble getting traction in the App Store and Google Play. They are experimenting a lot with different prices.
